26 Seconds

By in

“26 Seconds,” this was the headline on the front page of the Daily News Miner a few days ago.  The story was about how the musher who won the recent Yukon Quest Dog Mushing Race won by a margin of 26 seconds!  Now in a short sprint in track and field 26 seconds is a lifetime but in a 1000 mile dog race between Fairbanks and Whitehorse, Canada it’s miniscule.  Can you imagine being the musher who came in second?  I would probably drive myself nuts thinking back over the various ways in the race I could have shaved off 27 seconds for the victory.  The little things matter.  They matter in the Yukon Quest and they matter in life.  Everything affects our Christian witness.  Do I give a generous tip to the hard working waitress or stiff her?  Do I show courtesy to children of neighbors?  Do I control my tongue when gossip is flying?  So many areas contribute to how others view the authenticity of our Christian witness.  Watch the little things!
