Every once in a while I think those of us who are Christians should listen to what non-Christians say about us. Recently I watched a video clip of some liberal news/commentary show where the host and guests talked about a variety of subjects. But one subject they returned to several times was how they viewed Christians. For example, they talked about how 4 of the Republican contenders for the Republican nomination said they ran because “God told them to.” They mocked this idea and talked about God being confused, or having multiple personalities or just liked watching chaos. We should be more careful how we phrase things. I highly doubt that God called or told 4 different Republicans to run for president at the same time. This does seem silly. At least be humble when you think God has asked you to do something, unless you actually heard his audible voice, (which I never have heard) we should say things like “I feel led,” or after praying about this decision I feel a strong sense of peace about pursuing the presidency. We are to “walk by faith not by sight” so there are going to be times that we get it wrong completely or our timing is off. Let’s be more careful and precise in our language. How many view God depends heavily on how we represent Him. Let’s be innocent as doves but wise as serpents!
