Ambassadors for Christ

By in

2 Corinthians 5:17-21
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

As I think about this Scripture.  Two ideas leap out at me.  First, we are to be good news.  We are a new creation!  We are Christ’s ambassadors, we represent Him.  At least part of this is that we need to be walking erasers.  God has forgiven our sins; therefore, we need to forgive those around us.   Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Forgiveness is not an occasional act, it is a permanent attitude.”

Second,  once we’ve been good news in people’s lives then we can share the good news of reconciliation with God through what Jesus did on the cross.  This is what an ambassador does: represent, then communicate.   Let’s get to work!
