Journey christian church staff
Hi! We’re Derek and Dellie Dickinson. Let us tell you a little bit about ourselves. We are in our 50’s and have been married over 20 years. We have been blessed with five delightful children: Joseph, Jack, Maria, Tony, and Henry.
I (Derek) became a Christian at an early age and rededicated myself to the faith during my years as a business major at Taylor University after a time of searching for logical reasons to believe the Bible’s claims about Jesus Christ. My wife has taken a more unique road to faith that requires more than one cup of coffee to tell, but was finally baptized while in graduate school earning her master’s degree in counseling. It was while we were in graduate school at Cincinnati Bible Seminary that we met, fell in love and were married. I was working on two degrees in theology and one in education, but more importantly was storing ice cream in Dellie’s freezer just down the hall. We got to know each other over ice cream and the rest is history. I have served as a minister for over 20 years; first in Kentucky and then in Indiana, and am currently involved in growing Journey Christian Church. Dellie worked as a therapist at St. Francis Hospital for five years (prior to that was in private practice), and currently has a private practice here in Fairbanks as a Licensed Professional Counselor. In July of 2003, we left Indiana and enjoyed a once in a lifetime trip across the country from Indianapolis to Fairbanks, Alaska to start a new congregation – Journey Christian Church. We would love the opportunity to get to know you and invite you to join us as we continue the exciting new adventure of Journey Christian Church!
Chris and Krystal Scott, Children’s Ministry Director
Hi and welcome to Journey Christian Church. My wife Krystal and I are a military family that loves Jesus and seeks to pour our hearts into kids every week. We have two little girls that also attend Journey Kids, and our family seeks ways to serve Jesus and be an ambassador of Him everywhere we go.
Our churches motto is “Where faith and adventure meet”, as the Children’s Ministry Directors, we lead kids ages 2 through 12 on an adventure through the bible, unpacking the truth and learning how to apply it to our everyday lives. We focus on setting the foundation of who Jesus is, what He came to do and why He did it. We also discuss topics like where we fit in with relationship to Him and what communion is.
We also have a nursery with loving, gentle and patient volunteers that treat your kids like their own. Our building also features a mothers room for families with kids from birth to 12 months old. We just want to make sure your experience at Journey strengthens your faith and that you feel at home.
We look forward to meeting your family and worshiping with you.
David and Florie Wilcoxson, Worship Leaders
Fairbanks has been our home for many years; Florie was actually born here. We have been married for 40+ years and greatly enjoy our three children, their spouses and our seven grandchildren.
It is a privilege to share life with the part of God’s family that gathers at Journey Christian Church. We look forward to meeting you when you visit Journey.
Debbie Chapman, Secretary
“Hi, I’m Debbie Chapman, the secretary at Journey. My husband Mark and I were married in November 1988 and have three grown kids, Kyle, Micah and Hayley.
Our adventure in Alaska began in 1998, when the Army assigned Mark to Ft. Wainwright here in Fairbanks. We loved the area and people so much that we decided to put down permanent roots after Mark retired from the military.
“As a preacher’s kid, I’ve had a lifetime of experience with ministry in the church. My Mom and Dad were great role models in showing my sister and I how to love people and serve God.
I attended Ozark Christian College and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education. I’ve been part of, and led worship teams for over 20 years. I have also been able to volunteer as a sign language interpreter and teacher off and on for many years. Currently, I’m involved in Journey’s ministries at the Northstar Correctional Facility, and in Journey’s recovery focused service, Journey Underground.
