Division in the Church

By in

According to author Philip Yancey there are about 38,000 different Christian denominations in the world.  Yes, you read that number correctly 38,000!  Why so much division?  Is it the complexity of doctrine?–yes, sometimes.  Is it the clash of strong personalities?–yes, often.  Usually I think it is a failure of the church to walk in grace and truth as Jesus did.  Walking in grace and truth is like walking on a tightrope stretched high above a circus crowd–it’s very hard to do.  When we fall off on the side of truth we lift secondary doctrines to a status where we are willing to fight over them.  When we fall off on the side of grace we go too far and surrender the truth.  In recent years we’ve seen splits over the view of homosexuality.  The Bible clearly condemns it; yet group after group has followed the lead of the culture and accepted it as a legitimate lifestyle.  Today let’s walk carefully, modeling grace and truth.
