Excuses

Comedian Jay Leno once had a segment where he had fun exposing the Biblical illiteracy of his audience. He asked, “Name one of the ten commandments.” The answer he received was “God helps those who help themselves.” When he asked the audience to name one of the apostles, no one could do it. But when he asked the crowd to name the Beatles the crowd shouted out all four!(Unstuck, 60) In the book Unstuck by Arnie Cole and Michael Ross they reveal the results of their research that there are at least 11,000 excuses given by Christians for why they don’t regularly engage with the Bible. According to the authors based on a great deal of research “Engaging God’s Word consistently makes the difference in regard to lasting spiritual growth” (Unstuck, 55). The number one excuse is “I’m too busy.” We’re all busy. But the reality is we are busy with what is important to us. Let’s make time for the Bible this week. It’s an incredible key to becoming all that God wants you to be.
