One of the most famous stories of the Jewish Scriptures is when David faced down the mighty Goliath.   Goliath was about 9’9″ tall by our measurements.  Goliath was the great champion of the Philistines.  He taunted the Israeli army and mocked God himself.  David couldn’t stand it and decided to fight.  This courage is remarkable.  When we face giants we tend to be afraid.  What are the giants you face?  An addiction, financial difficulties, or broken relationships.  David could face down and defeat Goliath because there was only one giant in David’s life–God!  When the God you serve is the Creator of all that exists, the deliverer of Israel, the redeemer of repentant humanity; nothing else looks that big.

Note:  I think this basic idea came from reading Charles Swindoll’s book about David several years ago.
