As I’m writing this I’m watching my wife make a beef stew for the staff of Denali Elementary where two of our children attend school.  She is cutting up pieces of meat, potatoes and other vegatables.  What turns a collection of raw meat and hard vegatables into a delicious pot of stew?  Heat.  What turns a comfortable Christian into a world changer–Heat.  Heat–the furnace of adversity in our lives is like a kiln that turns soft clay pieces into beautiful, sturdy pottery.  I’m sure that if we could interview clay in the midst of the furnace it would complain and grumble about how it is being treated.  Yet, the furnance/kiln is a necessary part of the process to becoming an instrument of usefulness.  So when we feel a little heat, instead of complaining, let’s thank God that he cares enough to challenge us to grow.

Under His Mercy,
