Learning Humility

James 4:6b . . . God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Recently I took our five kids to Pioneer Park to play and swim. At the end of our time there Henry (age 2) was buckled into his stroller and we were about to walk home. We were waiting for the older children to grab their stuff when a bunch of ducks came out of the water and surrounded us. I think they thought we were going to feed them. Anyway, I did what I’ve done with all my kids when they experience a little bit of nature. I told Henry “God made the ducks.” Henry strenously objected and said “No, Henry made the ducks.” I kid you not, within seconds the closest duck bit Henry’s toe twice. I don’t want to make too much of this but now when I ask Henry “who made the ducks?” He says immediately, “GOD made the ducks.” Sometimes we just need to be reminded that He is God and we are not.
