Prayer

Today I was reading in Anne Lamott’s book Grace Eventually a quote from Kathleen Norris.  Ms. Norris said, “Prayer is not asking for what you think you want, but asking to be changed in ways you can’t imagine.” While I believe that God does answer our prayer requests, sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes slow; often His answer is to change us.  I can’t help but think of Nick Vujicic, a man born with no arms or no legs.   Like any of us in his situation he had prayed long and hard to God for a miracle of healing in his life.  Instead God turned his focus outwards and made him a miracle for others.  Take Daniel a small child who was born with almost the exact disability as Nick.  His mother prayed to God for a sign to them that God had not forgotten them.  Then they met Nick, a fully functioning man with an amazing ministry.  She told Nick “You are a miracle.  You are our miracle.”  So when you don’t get a miracle be willing to become one.

Under His Mercy,

Derek Dickinson, Minister
