Today I’m flying down to Anchorage to watch my 16 year old participate in the State wrestling tournament.  He has worked hard to prepare.  He has been going to 3 hour practices six days a week for months.  I have no doubt that he will wrestle his opponent to the best of his ability.  What I find convicting is how little the typical American Christian prepares for the inevitable conflict that we face.  We have an enemy, Satan, who is powerful, shrewd, and ancient.  Yet most of us don’t pray often for protection, study the Word in order to do battle and build deep relationships for when life is tough.  What kind of Christians would we be if we simply approached our spiritual lives with the level of intensity of the typical varsity high school athlete?  Just something to think about.
