George  Bernard Shaw once said, “I often quote myself,”  he then went on “It adds spice to my conversation.”  In addition, He said, “Few people think more than two or three times a year; I have made an international reputation for myself by thinking once or twice a week.”  (The Power of Humility  R.T. Kendall, 6) Pride isn’t pretty is it?  While this appears to be very blatant, pride rears its ugly head in all of our lives.  The Bible is very clear that God hates pride and loves humility.  Jesus teaches that the way up is down.  I Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”  It’s not that we don’t matter, we do; we just don’t matter as much as God.  And when we humble oursleves and make our lives about His glory we go up as well.  Fighting the pride that wells up within us is a lifelong battle.  I guess my best advice is that the larger God gets in the focus of your life the smaller you find yourself.  As your love, respect and reverence for God grows it’s not that you think less of yourself but you think about yourself less.  I encourage you to strive to walk in humility this week.
