The Point

By in

In their book Jesus Manifesto  authors Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola say, “You are not the point.  And we are not the point.  Jesus Christ always has been and always will be the point.  All the arrows point to Him and not to us.”  In another book I was reading the author said most American Christians are mostly about “therapeutic moralism.”  The term basically means that the goal of most churches is to create better people.  People who live well, are moral, honest and upright.  It is true that one goal of a church is to help people grow and change and become all that God wants them to be.  But the reason for that goal is to bring glory and honor to Jesus Christ.  If at the end of my life people say “Derek was a great guy” I have failed.  But if they say “I saw Jesus in Derek’s life in a powerful way” then I have succeeded.   The point of life is Jesus PERIOD.
