This morning my son Tony was in the bathroom and Dellie (his mother) was working on her makeup.  She had put on silver eye shadow but she wasn’t totally done.  Tony said, “Mom, that color makes you look old and tired.”  Dellie explained that she wasn’t done yet.  He hesitated for a moment and said, “I’m telling you it makes you look old and tired.”  Don’t you love kids?  They give you unedited truth.  This is one of the characteristics I appreciate about the Scripture.  It doesn’t sugar coat anything.  It reveals the weaknesses in the lives of the famous saints–David’s adultery, Noah’s drunkenness, and Peter’s cowardice.  But most importantly it holds up the mirror to our character flaws.  It tells us that the “wages of sin is death.”  The Bible unashamedly tells us that our sin is evil, destructive and will ultimately, permanently separate us from God.  But it also shares the truth that God loved us so much that he paid the ultimate price to save us.  Truth period, that’s the beauty of the Bible.
