As I’m reading the book Draw The Circle by Mark Batterson, I’m struck by the following line:  “prayer is the difference between the best you can do and the best God can do.”  (55)

I find that to be a powerful concept.  I can’t change a human heart.  I can’t change a city by myself, let alone our country.  But God can.  A phrase that I sometimes write at the top of a blank page when I write out my prayers is “God is able.”  My prayers are sometimes small and timid; instead of big and bold.  They are based on what I think I can do instead of what God can do.  We serve a God who spoke and created everything.  We serve the God who parted the Red Sea after raining down 10 plagues of judgment on Egypt.  We serve a God who sent fire from the sky in response to Elijah’s prayer.  So if God wants to erase my financial debt He can.  If He wants Journey to baptize 52 people this year, He can do that.  If he wants to transform your marriage; He can do that too.  I want my life, my church and my family to reflect the best God can do, not just the best I can do.  I guess I better go pray!
