“You cannot build God’s reputation if you aren’t willing to risk yours.” –Mark Batterson (The Circle Maker, 48)

As I have grown in the faith I have learned that God’s glory is the goal.  I remember a moment after Dellie and I had moved to Alaska to start Journey Christian Church that we talked about what if we fail?  It hadn’t occurred to us that we could fail.   And yet a large percentage of new church plants don’t make it.  It was an interesting, gut checking kind of moment.  We had talked to everyone in our network asking for prayer and financial support.  If we failed there was no hiding it; it would be spectacular.  But we decided that not to move forward would be disobedience.   So move forward we did.  I’m sure several Bible characters could identify with our feelings.

Imagine being Noah told to build a large boat to house two of every kind of animal for a worldwide flood.  Noah looked foolish for decades.

Or what about Joshua ordered to invade the promised land, then told to stop and circumcise the entire army.   I’m sure Joshua’s key leaders thought he had lost his mind.

What is God calling you to do?  What God inspired plunge are you willing to take?

All I can say is God’s glory is worth the risk.  Keep moving forward led by His Spirit.

Under His Mercy,

Derek Dickinson
